While I love to review food, I love to monitor food prices. Given how inflated food costs are, I still enjoy the happiness of eating. Besides writing for Cafehopping, I do blog about fun places to head to @SGDIRECTORY.

New Mahamoodiya Restaurant Best Seller
If you’re looking for the best new restaurant in town, look no further than New Mahamoodiya Restaurant!
The New Mahamoodiya Restaurant is one of the best restaurants in the area of Singapore, and it’s easy to see why. They have a wide selection of delicious dishes, including traditional Indian cuisine like samosas and tandoori chicken, as well as American favorites like burgers and macaroni and cheese. Their service is great too—you’ll be treated like royalty when you stop by this place.
We’ve put together a list of some of our favorite dishes from this establishment:
New Mahamoodiya Crispy Prata

I was looking for something new to try and I saw this Crispy Prata stall. I love fried foods and pratas, so I decided to give it a try. It was delicious!
The crispy prata—a dish of fried Indian flatbread—is served piping hot and is crunchy on the outside yet soft in the middle. It’s topped with coconut chutney (which tastes like a combination of peanut butter, honey, and curry), tamarind chutney (which makes your mouth pucker with sourness), and a sweet-and-sour sauce that cuts through all of it perfectly. It’s one of my favorite meals in town!

The whole thing was light, fluffy, crispy, and sweet all at once. Definitely worth trying if you’re looking for something different. So if you’re looking for something light but hearty (and with just enough spice), give this one a try!
New Mahamoodiya Egg Onion Thosai

What do you get when you combine a crepe and an omelet? An egg-onion thosai.
Now, I know what you’re thinking: “I’ve had crepes before! What’s so special about this one?” Well, if you haven’t tried an egg-onion thosai before, then you’re in for a treat. This traditional fermented crepe is made with egg and onion slices, but it’s got a twist that sets it apart from other traditional crepes: the addition of black pepper and cilantro. The result is a savory dish that will make your mouth water with every bite!
Furthermore, the egg and onion slices are cooked just right, so they’re crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The crepe itself is mild and slightly sweet, with just the right amount of yeastiness to give it a nice flavor profile. The onions add a bit of spice to make this dish zesty, but not overpowering.
New Mahamoodiya Maggi Goreng with Egg

When you’re craving a delicious, satisfying meal that’s easy to make, Maggi Goreng with Egg is a great option.
This dish is stir-fried noodles that are coated generously in a delicious savory sauce, served with fried egg. It’s quick and easy to prepare, and satisfies your cravings for a fast and tasty meal.
The noodles are delicious on their own—but they really shine when they’re paired with the savory sauce. The noodles have a wonderful consistency that makes them perfect for stir-frying—they’re not too soft or too firm; they just have the right amount of bite to them. They also absorb the sauce nicely without getting soggy or falling apart—this means you can enjoy every last bite of your meal!

The egg adds an extra layer of texture and flavor; it’s cooked just right so it’s both flavorful and soft enough to eat easily but firm enough that it doesn’t fall apart easily either (unlike some other eggs we’ve tried).
New Mahamoodiya Egg Dum Briyani

I am a big fan of briyani, and this is one of my go-tos. The egg dum briyani at New Mahamoodiya is a little bit different from other briyanis—instead of being served with a dumpling on top, it’s served with an egg. It’s kind of like the best parts of an omelette and briyani had a baby.
The rice is super fluffy, and I love how the egg yolk breaks through when you cut into it. The chicken is tender, but not so much that it falls apart when you eat it with your fork (which is good). The sauce is so flavorful, and the spices are just right—not overwhelming but not bland either.
The rice is nice and soft and fluffy, with a really good flavor. I was worried about the amount of turmeric in the recipe, but it didn’t taste like turmeric at all. I’m not sure if that’s because there wasn’t enough or if it was just balanced well with the other spices.
If you’re looking for something new to try, this dish will definitely hit the spot!
New Mahamoodiya Lamb Shank Briyani

The lamb shank briyani is a standout. We’re talking about a sizable lamb shank, glistening with gravy and nestled atop a bed of basmati rice studded with dalcha (spicy lentils), onion pachadi (fried onions) and egg. It’s served with papadum, which are crackers made from lentil flour and spices.
The best part? This dish comes with naan—the perfect vehicle for scooping up the delicious bits of meat and sauce. The lamb shank itself is tender and flavorful, but the real winner here is the accompanying rice. It’s cooked to perfection: slightly chewy but not sticky or gummy, with just enough salt to bring out its flavor without leaving you thirsty for water.

It had a subtle garlic flavor that made it just right for me. And there was plenty of gravy to complement the rice and all the other delicious things on my plate. I would definitely recommend this dish if you’re looking for something new and exciting to try!
