She is the one who dreamt of a cafe culture in Singapore and made that happen with menuprices.sg. She walks the streets and go hyper-mode behind her keyboard to discover and share new cafes in Singapore. She adores cafes with intricate interior and would die for divine desserts, droolicious brunch and great coffee. Other than cafes, she loves cats, marketing and ultimate frisbee.
Merely a few months after its opening, Department of Caffeine has shot to fame and is becoming the new favourite brunch place for cafe hoppers.
Taking over where Broadway Cafe used to be, DOC seems to be fairing much better in its popularity as compared to the former. No doubt, it has probably one of the best waffles around and serves multiple selection of roasts for you to choose your cuppa from. Department of Caffeine has indeed brought life to Duxton hill again.

LOOK & FEEL
It has done a fabulous facelift to this place. The allocation of space is definitely challenging as the space they have is long and narrow. The wooden walls and furniture provided a warm feeling to its ambience.
FOOD & DRINKS
My usual cafe hopping bestie, Grace, and I were in the mood for waffles. I ordered the sweet one, Buttermilk Waffles with Butter Rum Bananas. The waffle was crispy and light. The fragrant caramelized bananas with a tinge of rum was perfect with it! The ice cream gave a sweet finish to the entire dish. I would highly recommend this to you.
Grace had the savoury one, Sundried Tomato and Herb Waffles with bacon and scrambled eggs. Though savoury waffles has a higher risk of clash in taste, DOC did a pretty good job at this. The bacon wasn’t made too salty, making it just compatible with the soft eggs and crispy waffle. I liked it as well, but Grace complained that the waffle isn’t crispy enough, and I am guessing her waffle was left alone for awhile before serving.
I also tried the Yoghurt, Vanilla Bean and Honey Smoothie, which sounded extremely tempting and delicious. However, it was a little disappointing. The mix was a little plain and could be sweeter. The worse part would be the dry sensation on the tongue in the aftertaste. In dialect, we call it “siap-siap”. Regardless, I still finished the entire drink so I wouldn’t call it inedible. I would recommend them to review their recipe because I am pretty sure that the mix between yoghurt, vanilla and honey wouldn’t go wrong!

IN A NUTSHELL
Department of Caffeine is definitely the latest hotspot for cafe hoppers, and you should visit to find out why everyone is in love with this place too. Remember to place reservations to avoid disappointment as they are quite crowded on weekends. Otherwise you could pick the timing wisely, avoid brunch hours and try to find time during weekday instead. I would recommend you its relatively affordable and delicious waffles to try for a first timer, as it is definitely going to impress you before you get all adventurous for its more expensive mains.
